Inspired by still life scenes and portraits in the Rijksmuseum, Bethan has created a hypnotic sickly sweet installation of fruit desserts.
Psychedelic pillows are formed and folded out of humble cotton tablecloths and napkins. Each fruit is embroidered and then adorned with pins and beads echoing the cheese and pineapple party classic. Cream is transformed into millstone ruffs, so prominent in late-sixteenth century portraits, to complete this indulgent scene.
In the second window, woven tea towels are stretched and glittered, transforming the dull duty of an after party clean-up into a late night disco room.
In celebration of Room On The Roof’s second birthday, de Bijenkorf invite you to come join the party!
All works are produced in collaboration with TextielMuseum, Tilburg
